Bring Me The Horizon “POST HUMAN: NeX GEn”
Written By Max Calabrese
Bring Me The Horizon’s “POST HUMAN: NeX GEn” released on May 24th, 2024 explores a lot of genres with alternative, pop punk, EDM, lofi and metalcore from what I can make out. From the looks at the titles of [ost]’s, I expected those to be your typical interludes that are less than a minute which aside from the first one, I didn’t expect to come across a neat lofi beat followed by chants in “[ost](spi)ritual” with a interesting outro that leaves questions about what’s to come aside from the next track. “[ost] p.u.s.s.-e” has EDM drums and some questionable lyrics that also makes you wonder what message it provides.
A lot of tracks interluding into each other especially with the first three tracks with ring outs, vocal outtakes or brainstorming, and starting up the next track. I love the energy “Kool-Aid” gives and the anticipation in the intro with clapping opening for the first verse. I also like the idea of having outtakes or brainstorming one of the track’s melodies with vocals and adding effects over it being a nice additional touch.
I like the use of distortion in “n/A” that fits well with the chord progression and the addition of a count in for “LosT”. Speaking of “LosT,” I like the melody of the guitars and the harmony in the second verse and pre chorus. Overall, I really like the exploration of genre, use of synths being played around with and the mysterious messages either at the beginning or end of the tracks.
9/10 Listen to: “Kool-Aid,” “a bulleT w/ my namE On,” “n/A” and “LosT”
