Thowback of the Week: Bring Me The Horizon "Suicide Season"
By Max Calabrese
Bring Me The Horizon’s “Suicide Season,” released on September 29th, 2008, known for their hit track “Chelsea Smile,” is very riff and breakdown-heavy with unique wordplay and experimental synths. A lot of unique structures with most of the tracks that work well together.
“No Need for Introductions, I’ve Read About Girls Like You on the Backs of Toilet Doors” is the most out-there track of the album with its track title and structure with the sample use of Prada’s commercial “Infusion D’Iris” followed by a breakdown and ending the song with “thank you.” A very unique experimental mixture that left me speechless.
I like the structure of “It Was Written In Blood,” with the bass being exposed more. “The Comedown,” “Chelsea Smile,” and “Death Breath” are very riff-heavy, usually repeating the intro or building on to it. I also like the intro chant in “Diamonds Aren’t Forever,” which focuses the vocals until it brings in the band.
A deluxe edition was released on April 12th, 2010, which includes 14 remixes. Ten remixes of the original track list with extra remixes for “Chelsea Smile,” “Football Season Is Over,” “Sleep With One Eye Open,” and “Suicide Season.” All experimented with clever EDM.
10/10 listen to: “The Comedown,” “Chelsea Smile,” “Death Breath,” and “No Need for Introductions, I’ve Read About Girls Like You on the backs of Toilet Doors”
