Between You and Me - Everything is Temporary - Review
by Caitlin Kelly
Between You and Me’s first LP, Everything is Temporary, will have you sinking into your emotions. The album kicks off with a pulsating beat in Twice Shy, a song that many can relate to with angsty lyrics about dismantled friendships/relationships that were filled with deceit and how there’s no going back to how things were before. The narrator is blunt about his feelings towards his ex-friend with “Stay away from me honestly, you’re just a memory” and “How do you think we’re still friends, you never called to make amends.” The album flows into the next two songs and gives the listeners the desire to get crazy and jump around with its energizing rhythms. Both songs refer to relationships: Move On is an apology letter from the narrator to his ex about how he hopes to one day make amends after treating her poorly. While the next track, Dakota, is from the view of someone whose significant other (Dakota) tries to get in the way of their friendships with other people out of jealousy and insecurity. In Friends from 96’, they decelerate the beat and fill the air with nostalgia and grief with lyrics that talk about friends from your childhood days with which you no longer have communications. “Just a picture to show for all the time that we had and I’ll keep it framed in my head,” is bittersweet and tugs on your heartstrings reminding you of memories of people that are no longer in your life. Grief is the center of Floral Glass, a detailed song about what it’s like dealing with a death of a family member, as the narrator describes the death of his aunt. Overall, the album is a must to listen to, whether you’ve just gotten out of a relationship or want to listen to relatable music on death of friendships or a loss of a family member. Between You and Me reminds the listener that no matter what they’re going through they aren’t alone.
9/10 listen to Twice Shy, Friends from 96’, and Good Intentions
